Woman who claims she dated Roy Moore says he’s ‘lying’
One of the women who claims was a teenager when she dated a then 34-year-old Roy Moore said he is “unfit for public office.”
In her first broadcast interview, Debbie Wesson Gibson told the Today Show she now realizes her relationship with Moore, which allegedly began after he spoke at her high school, was not appropriate.
“It’s just creeper. And I didn’t have that sense at the time,” she said.
Gibson was 17 at the time the alleged relationship began, a year older than the age of consent in Alabama. She does not accuse Moore of molesting her and said any kissing between the two was consensual, however, she said she chose to speak out about their relationship after the GOP nominee for the U.S. Senate seat in Alabama denied knowing any of the women who accused him of improper sexual contact.
At a Nov. 27 campaign event in Henagar, Moore said, “The allegations are completely false. They are malicious. Specifically, I do not know any of these women.” Two days later in Theodore, Moore said “Let me state once again: I do not know any of these women, did not date any of these women and have not engaged in any sexual misconduct with anyone.”
A Moore spokesperson clarified the statement to Today, saying he was only referring to the women who accused him of assault.
That reasoning isn’t enough for Gibson.
“I would encourage people to ask themselves do you want a man who lies now?” she said.
Moore faces Democrat Doug Jones on Dec. 12.
