Jones campaign: Moore ‘unfit for office’ even before allegations
President Donald Trump might not have mentioned Roy Moore in a Sunday morning tweet slamming Doug Jones, but Jones’ campaign was happy to do so in its response.
Trump blasted Jones as “a Schumer/Pelosi puppet who is WEAK on Crime, WEAK on the Border, Bad for our Military and our great Vets, Bad for our 2nd Amendment, AND WANTS TO RAISES TAXES TO THE SKY.” (For a breakdown of Jones’ stances on the issues in question, click here.)
To some observers, it was telling that Trump didn’t mention the name of Roy Moore, Jones’ Republican opponent in an upcoming special election. Voters go to the polls Dec. 12 to decide which man will take the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Luther Strange.
Moore has been dogged by allegations of improper sexual contact with teenage girls in the past, and Trump in turn has been criticized for supporting his candidacy.
“Doug Jones is continuing to focus on finding common ground and getting things done for real Alabamians,” said a statement provided by Jones’ campaign on Sunday. “His record as a prosecutor speaks for itself. Roy Moore was unfit for office before 9 Alabama women served as witnesses to all Alabamians of his disturbing conduct.”
Even though the president’s tweet didn’t name him, Moore responded with tweet saying Jones “is a pro abortion, open borders, pro amnesty, anti #2A liberal. We will defeat him on Dec 12.”
